MCT has been focused on high performance dielectric materials made with PTFE (polytetraflouroethylene) since we fabricated our first circuit boards many years ago. Today, we support our customers demanding dielectric and performance requirements with a long, diverse list of materials that include ceramic loaded, glass reinforced and pure PTFE.
In addition to PTFE based dielectric materials, we also work with a variety of other unique and specialized dielectrics that are available to support the critical requirements of high performance, high speed and high frequency applications.
We offer single sided, double sided and multilayer cross-sections. We also fabricate hybrid multilayers constructed of two or more different dielectric materials (including PTFE in combination with FR4) to help balance performance, cost and mechanical stability trade offs.
Unlike circuit boards made with 100% FR4 materials, PTFE based dielectric materials require specialized fabrication equipment and chemical processing. Simply put, PTFE dielectric materials don’t behave well in many standard FR4 circuit board processes.
Compared to rigid FR4 laminates, PTFE laminates are softer and exhibit an array of dimensional stability problems during processing. And, because of the non-stick properties of PTFE, plated copper adhesion is poor unless specific remedies are employed.
Therefore, fabricating high quality circuit boards with PTFE based dielectric material is nearly impossible unless you have the technical know how, appropriate equipment and chemical processes to overcome these inherent material issues.
At MCT, we take pride in our advanced manufacturing and engineering capability that has been specifically developed to fabricate circuit boards using PTFE and other advanced, high performance dielectric materials. Our commitment to work exclusively with these materials has led to the development of many proprietary recipes used to solve difficult build issues. As a result, we are able to use these tools directly to help overcome problems on new builds.
